MX GP of The Netherlands 2013 - Race Report

The Grand Prix of the Netherlands took place today in Valkenswaard and saw Antonio Cairoli and Jeffrey Herlings on the top of the podium. In MX1 Ken De Dycker finished second and Evegeny Bobryshev third, whereas in MX2 Jordi Tixier was second and Jake Nicholls completed the top three.

Race one MX2 saw Jordi Tixier lead the first half of the race, but was soon passed by Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team mate Jeffrey Herlings. Further back Rockstar Energy Suzuki Europe’s Max Ansti put in his best ride of the year to take home third place here in The Netherlands while Wilvo Nestaan JM Racing KTM’s Jake Nicholls and Standing Construct KTM’s Glenn Coldenhoff rounded out the top five.

Race one MX1 saw Honda World Motocross’ Evgeny Bobryshev take the holeshot with Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Antonio Cairoli hot on his heels. Cairoli got to the lead but Bobryshev remained close. Both Italian Antonio Cairoli and Russian Evgeny Bobryshev soon were passed by Belgian Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Ken De Dyker. De Dyker put in a strong few laps but after making a big mistake fell back to third. Antonio Cairoli ended up taking the win with Evgeny Bobryshev coming home in second and Ken De Dyker in third. Behind them were Route 77 Energy Honda’s Tanel Leok in fourth and Kawasaki Racing Team’s Gautier Paulin in fifth.

Race two MX2 saw Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jordi Tixier put in yet another super performance leading the majority of the race but with three laps to go Tixier found himself under attack by current FIM Motocross MX2 World Champion Jeffrey Herlings who managed to make a pass and take the lead. Wilvo Nestaan JM Racing KTM’s Jake Nicholls put together his best race of the year coming home in third with Standing Construct KTM’s Glenn Coldenhoff in fourth and Wilvo Nestaan JM Racing KTM’s Romain Febvre in fifth.

Race two MX1 saw Honda World Motocross’ Evgeny Bobryshev take yet another holeshot followed by Rockstar Energy Suzuki World’s Kevin Strijbos. Both Bobryshev and Strijbos were quickly under attack and passed by a charging Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Ken De Dyker. Strijbos moved into second and put a slight gap on Bobryshev in third. Mid race Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Antonio Cairoli began hammering down making a charge into the second position setting his sights on his team mate Ken De Dyker. De Dyker managed to hold Cairoli off, taking the win in race two. Cairoli finished second, Strijbos third, Bobryshev fourth and Clement Desalle rounded out the top five.
